World Boxing Super Series: Brähmer vs Brant fight finally gets date

Jürgen Brähmer and Rob Brant finally have a date and site for their tournament bout.

It’s been officially announced that Jürgen Brähmer and Rob Brant will meet in their World Boxing Super Series super middleweight tournament quarterfinal on October 27 in Schwerin, Germany.

This was the last WBSS fight to need an official date and home, and now it finally has one. There had been talk of the fight taking place in the United States, but that rather predictably fell through, with the official reason being “date and venue issues.” Brähmer has fought outside of Germany exactly once in his long career, a 2009 bout in Hungary.

Brähmer (48-3, 35 KO) is moving down in weight, and fighting at super middleweight for the first time since a 2007 win over Mario Veit. The 38-year-old southpaw hasn’t fought since October 2016, when he lost to Nathan Cleverly in a fight he was winning, before retiring after the sixth round due to injury.

Brant (22-0, 15 KO) is moving up in weight, on the other hand, coming up from 160 for a major opportunity, as he was having trouble securing notable fights. He’s been featured on TV a few times and shown promise, last fighting in January, a win over Alexis Hloros.

The Brähmer-Brant winner will face the winner of the contest between Callum Smith and Erik Skoglund.
