Fresh off his third round KO win over Avni Yildirim on Saturday, Chris Eubank Jr. is saying that he’s hoping for WBA super middleweight titlist George Groves to win his quarterfinals match against Jamie Cox this weekend so that they can get it on in an all-British showdown.
“It is me and you [Groves] in January. And it’s going to be exactly the same as what I’ve done here,” Eubank Jr. said.
“I’m going to dominate this tournament. I’m here to knock these guys out. I’m not playing any more.
“He has the WBA title and a name and we have history. We need to get in the ring and settle it.”
And in an effort to demonstrate that Yildirim was just another easy night’s work for him, Eubank Jr. posted this video of himself training just one day after the fight.
A potential showdown between Eubank Jr. and Groves would likely be a big deal in the U.K., but a potential January fight would seem to rule out some of the bigger, outdoor venues that might otherwise be appealing to promoters. Either way, a good fight is a good fight and there’s been some tension simmering between Eubank Jr. and Groves for years now, which only adds to the intrigue. Hopefully they’ll finally have at it.
