World Boxing Council bantamweight world champion, Catherine Phiri (11-1-0, 15 KO’S) of Zambia, makes the first defense of her title on August 27 in the Capitol Lusaka, against the dangerous Gabisile Tshabalala (9-1-1), from South Africa
Phiri comes from winning the WBC belt after defeating Yazmin Rivas in Mexico, by technical decision in the 6th round with scorecards of 57-57, 58-56 y 59-55. While Tshabalala comes from defeating Unathi Myekeni by decision.
Since she defeated, “Rusita” Rivas the spotlight has been firmly focused on Catherine Phiri, the first boxing world champion of Zambia. She`s also been named UNICEF ambassador in order to help the improve the lives of children throughout the Region.
