A welterweight bout between Kamaru Usman and Emil Weber Meek is slated for UFC 219.
Surging welterweight contender Kamaru Usman probably would’ve wanted a top-10 opponent for his next bout, but it looks as if he’ll be facing another unranked foe. After a report from Farah Hannoun, MMA Fighting confirmed that Usman vs. Emil Weber Meek is expected to take place at UFC 219 on December 30th.
The #11-ranked Usman (11-1) is undefeated in the UFC, and he’s coming off a spectacular first-round KO of Sergio Moraes at last month’s UFC Pittsburgh. The 29-year-old also holds notable wins over Warlley Alves, Sean Strickland, and Leon Edwards. He called out former LW champ Rafael dos Anjos following his victory vs. Moraes, but RDA is set to fight Robbie Lawler in December.
Meek (9-2, 1 NC) has been inactive for almost a year, having made his Octagon debut last December at UFC 206 in Toronto. The entertaining and charismatic Norwegian defeated Jordan Mein by unanimous decision and was scheduled to face Nordine Taleb this past May, but withdrew due to injury. Meek is best known for his TKO of UFC veteran Rousimar Palhares in Venator FC.
UFC 219 takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. No main event has been announced.
