The World Boxing Council will decide the merits of a rematch of Francisco Vargas VS Orlando Salido, due to the lingering hand injury of Super featherweight champion Miguel Berchelt.
At the weekly get together with the Press, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said: “We are waiting for an official petition from the promoters. They are considering the rematch of Vargas VS Salido. Their first match was Fight of the year and a tremendous contest.
Once we receive a formal petition we can address it, and make an announcement.
“We have requested Miguel Berchelt to provide a medical certificate in order to assess how long it’ll be before he can return to the ring.”
Berchelt won the title in January, stopping Vargas on cuts. He then successfully defended his crown with a unanimous decision victory over former champion Takashi Miura, who’d been dethroned by Vargas, in another Fight of the year. After his defeat by Berchelt, Miura announced his retirement.
