PROMISING Carlo Caesar “Too Sharp” Penalosa fights Salatiel “Pakyaw” Amit for the vacant WBC Asian Boxing Council Silver Flyweight title on November 10 at the Puerto Princesa Coliseum in Palawan.
The 12-round title fight is one of the four championships featured in the boxing promotion held as part of the 55th Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) Annual Convention from Nov. 9-11.
The 24-year old Penalosa (9W-1L-0D, 3 KOs) is a nephew of former two-division world champions Dodie Boy and Gerry Penalosa.
Gerry Penalosa held the WBC and lineal super flyweight titles from 1997-1998 and the WBO bantamweight title from 2007-2009. Gerry is now a promoter and is staging the Penalosa-Amit title-fight under the Gerrypens Promotion Inc.
“This is an acid test for Carlo if he is ready for international competition,” said Gerry Penalosa.
Carlo Caesar Penalosa, a son of Gerry’s sister Marissa, previously won a 3rd round technical knockout win against Vincent Bautista last August 25 at the Makati Square Boxing Arena in Makati.
Penalosa’s only defeat was a split decision against Reymark Taday last February 25 at the Elorde Sports Complex in Paranaque City. But he bounced back with a unanimous decision against Jayar Diama on May 26 in Antipolo City.
Amit (10W-3L-2D, 7KOs) of Omega Boxing Gym is coming from a 9th round TKO loss to Froilan Saludar held June 10 in Mandaue City. Amit was downed twice in Round 1 and was unfit to continue from a swollen left eye caused by punches.
Amit, however, scored his last victory via a UD over former LuzProBA flyweight champion Renerio Arizala last March 18 at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu.
Amit fought but lost to Jonathan Taconing by a 10th round TKO in their battle for the vacant WBC International light flyweight title at the Elorde Sports Complex in Paranaque City last year. LITO DELOS REYES
