HICCOUGH FOR PANTERITA NERY

By WBCboxing.com

WBC bantamweight champion Luis “Panterita” Nery (25-0) stopped Filipino Arthur Villanueva in six rounds, in a non title fight, but he himself visited the canvass, before achieving it.

Nery was dropped in the 4th round, and discarding that carelessness, he thereafter tightened up his defence and fought smart. Upping the tempo and punch rate Nery was overwhelming his rival forcing Referee to stop the one way traffic.

Mexican Luis Nery traveled to Japan to conquer the WBC bantamweight championship by defeating Japanese legendary champion, Shinsuke Yamanaka. However some weeks later, he failed a drug test which had been done in the lead-up to the fight, indicating the banned substance Zilpaterol. The findings were from Nery’s “A” sample taken on July 27, but additional tests taken in Japan showed negative results. For this reason the World Boxing Council ordered an immediate rematch between Shinsuke Yamanaka and Luis Nery for the bantamweight title.

The WBC issued a ruling stating “the WBC cannot make a determination with sufficient certainty as to whether Mr. Nery’s adverse finding was the result of intentional ingestion of a banned substance to improve performance.”
