Declan Geraghty and Jono Carroll clash online following fight cancellation

The super featherweight Fight of the Year rematch was set to take place next weekend in Belfast, but it emerged earlier today that Geraghty has been forced to pull out due to a hand injury.

Carroll, who won the first bout back in 2014 via fourth round disqualification, remains on the ‘Frampton Reborn’ bill at the SSE Odyssey Arena and a new opponent will be confirmed shortly.

Geraghty [15(4)-2(1)] though took to social media this evening to vent his frustrations at Carroll, accusing the Dunshaughlin boxer of looking to score cheap points and challenging ‘King Kong’ to an all-or-nothing fight next year.

The former amateur star revealed that his injury occurred at the start of last month, and that Carroll [14(1)-0] had known of a cancellation when he did an interview with Irish-Boxing.com last week.

Geraghty lamented “that thick doing a interview saying he has a feeling I’m gonna pull out of the fight, the clown already knew I [had] withdrawn from the fight two weeks ago and then tries to be smart by doing a interview the following Tuesday!”

“You’re talking a load of crap on this saying you knew I would pull out and this and that.”

“Anyone ain’t stupid enough to box the way my hand is – and for anyone who wants to see it, it’s in my vlog, it’s pretty bad.”

Outlining his desire for a winner-takes-all rematch, Geraghty noted how “you’re already saying you ain’t wasting any more time so sounds like you’re pulling out of the rescheduled fight already – so I’m putting this up so everyone can see this, so your fans and my fans all can shut-up talking shit.”

“We’re both fighters and I one hundred percent want to fight you – and if you’re so sure I’m a pussy and can beat me, put your purse up for a bet and I’ll do the same, as easy as that.”

“And before you say I might pull out again, if the fight doesn’t go ahead for any reason at all on my side I’ll pay you €2000, can’t get any fairer than that. You want the fight or not?”

Carroll responded with venom, and told Geraghty that “you’re the biggest wanker I ever met in my life.”

“I’ll take your bet no problem, but you’re off my radar for now because you pulled out like a little bitch that you are. You done all the talking last time and now you pulled out so I’m done with talking, come back when you found your balls.”

Geraghty will now focus on recovery, with an expected return date in the new year. Carroll, on the other hand, awaits news of a new opponent with Mack The Knife Global, who manage both fighters, promising a top domestic opponent for the Marbella-based boxer.
