At the Palace of Sports ‘Erick Paolo Martinez’ of Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Julio ‘Pollito’ Ceja won a gruelling bloody and flaring match against durable Venezuelan Breilor ‘Zulianito de Oro’ Terán, to retain the WBC Silver super Bantamweight title, maintaining himself as a challenger for the absolute crown.
The card was presented by Promociones del Pueblo in association with Cancún Boxing of Pepe Gómez and Boxing Time of Memo Rocha; It was broadcast throughout Mexico on the Televisa Deportes screens in its traditional ‘Saturday Box’ from the capital of Quintana Roo.
Ceja sent the South American to the canvas very early with a stunning right hook, opening a deep cut on his cheekbone. It appeared to be the beginning of the end. But in fact it was only the end of the beginning, because the Venezuelan with the canary yellow hair, got up, dug deep and fought back. ‘Zulianito’ showed skills and determination to badly bloody Ceja`s nose, which his corner had difficulty in staunching.
“Pollito” who was getting increasingly caught with hard left hooks, which almost swelled shut his right eye, didn`t get into a flap. Calmly and with hampered focus, he fought back with an array of heavy, clouting, sapping body shots and kept his technique together, to outbox a very well conditioned and determined opponent. Both poured it on in the twelfth and final round of true grit and pure excitement, the Judges’ scored it : 114-113, 115-112 and 118-109, all in favor of the Mexican, who had to work a lot harder than expected for his victory to maintain the status quo!
