The pressure is on Demetrious Johnson.
After having cleaned out the flyweight division, ‘Mighty Mouse’ has been the target of newly-crowned bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw, who is adamant about dropping down to 125-pounds to challenge ‘DJ’ in his native division.
Dillashaw wanted to fight Johnson in the Summer, but Johnson opted instead to defend his flyweight title against Ray Borg, citing Dillashaw’s inexperience at 125 lbs.
Johnson, 31, submitted Borg with a spectacular flying armbar, and Dillashaw, who used to train at Urijah Faber’s Team Alpha Male in Sacramento, California, went on to knock out ex-teammate Cody Garbrandt to reclaim the bantamweight championship at UFC 217.
After having significantly boosted his bargaining power, Dillashaw called out Johnson in a recent interview with TMZ Sports.
“Don’t be scared, man. Let’s get this done.” Dillashaw said, per MMA Mania’s Dan Hiergesell. “This is the fight that makes sense for you and me. This is the fight that the fans want to see. This is the fight I want to see. Not sure if you want to see it, but man up and let’s do it.”
Johnson, who is officially ranked as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, having defended his UFC title a record-breaking eleven times, has yet to take the bait, but it’s only a matter of time before the flyweight champ breaks his silence.
