CURRENT WBO International minimumweight champion Mark Anthony “The Little Boy” Barriga of Panabo City will face Glenne Calacar this Saturday at the Makati Cinema Square Boxing Arena in Makati City
The Barriga-Calacar is scheduled for only 8 rounds in the undercard of the “Knockout” boxing card by the Joven-Knucklehead Promotions.
The undefeated Barriga (7W-1 KOs) won the vacant WBO International minimumweight title via a unanimous decision against Wittawas Basapean of Indonesia last Sept. 29 at the Heyuan Royal Garden Hotel in Beijing.
Calacar, on the other hand, has 3 wins with 1 loss and 6 draws.
He previously settled to a split draw with JayR Raquinel in their battle for the Luzon Professional Boxing Association (LuzProBA) light flyweight title last February 11 in Mandaluyong.
The 23-year old native of Bansalan, Davao del Sur also had a majority draw with Japanese Kyota Otsuka last year in Makati.
“We will start early at 12 noon because we have a Christmas party for all boxers and trainers at 4 p.m. at the same venue,” said promoter Joven Jimenez.
The boxing card and Christmas party is supported also by the Singwangcha Foundation of Naris Singwangcha, Highland Boxing Promotion of Brico Santig, Team United International by Ryuta Kato, DMAD Boxing Promotion, Games and Amusements Board and reigning IBF World super flyweight champion Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas.
Pitted in the main event is the championship fight for the interim OPBF light flyweight crown between Ivan Soriano (16W-1L-1D) and Jaysever Abcede (15W-7L-0D).
In the main supporting bout, Danny Tampipi (7W-8L-2D) will clash with Noel Adelmita (13W-11L-2D) for the Philippines Boxing Federation (PBF) super bantamweight title. (LITO DELOS REYES)
