FRENCH champion Nordine Oubaali will be defending his WBC Silver Bantamweight title against Filipino challenger Mark Anthony “Heneral” Geraldo on December 16 at the La Seine Musicale, Boulogne-Bilancourt in France.
It will be the first title defense for Oubaali, who won the vacant title via a 10th round technical knockout win against Mexican Alejandro Hernandez last June 2 at the Palais des Sports Porte de Versailles in Paris XV.
Oubaali is undefeated with 12 straight wins and nine by knockouts.
The 31-year old French also won the vacant WBA Inter-Continental bantamweight title by stopping Julio Cesar Miranda by a TKO in the final 12th round last year at the Gymnase du Clos de l’Arche in Noisy-le-Grand.
Geraldo, on the other hand, missed his flight to France after a much-delayed flight from Manila to Istanbul.
Geraldo is travelling together with his manager Leonil Lazarito, who brought along his wife Letty.
They missed their flight for Paris, France after arriving late in Instanbul. But they were still able to make to Paris with the help of a Filipina, who is married to a French professor.
But despite the long trip, the 26-year old Geraldo is now excited to fight Oubaali.
Geraldo (34W-7L-3D, 15 KOs) previously captured the vacant WBO Oriental bantamweight title via a unanimous decision against fellow Filipino Kenny Demecillo last March 11 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.
Geraldo, a native of Kibawe, Bukidnon is a veteran of seven separate title fights. He is a former WBO Asia Pacific Youth super flyweight and Philippine Boxing Federation bantamweight champion.
Geraldo is the only fighter to have ever beaten the reigning IBF world super flyweight champion Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas.
Geraldo won by a majority decision to dethrone the previously unbeaten Ancajas (13-0) in their championship fight for the WBO Asia Pacific Youth super flyweight title held March 17, 2012 in Lapu-Lapu City.
Geraldo lost in is first title fight by a unanimous decision to Kittipong Jaigrajang for the vacant WBC International Silver super flyweight title in 2011.
He bounced back by capturing the Philippine Boxing Federation bantamweight crown by a UD over Fredirex Rodriguez in 2012 in Butuan City.
In his next fight, Geraldo scored an upset over Ancajas. He defended the title successfully by stopping Tanawat Phonnaku in Round 2 in Makati in 2013.
In 2015, Geraldo went to Japan to face Japanese Takuma Inoue but lost by a UD in their battle for the vacant OPBF super flyweight title at the Korakuen Hall.
In his next title-fight, Geraldo also lost by a TKO to Malaysia-based Filipino boxer Jeson Umbal via a 5th round TKO on July 23, 2016 at the Far East Square in Singapore.
But Geraldo proved that he can always make a big comeback by scoring another upset over early-favorite Demecillo by a UD last March in Hong Kong to earn the vacant WBO Oriental bantamweight title
