Glover Teixeira’s day isn’t done yet.
The 37-year old from Danbury, Conn., by way of Brazil made sure people knew he’s still a force to be reckoned with in the UFC’s light heavyweight division on Saturday night. Teixeira made short work of Misha Cirkunov at UFC on FOX 26, earning a TKO victory in Winnipeg at 2:45 of the opening round.
Cirkunov came out fast, as the Toronto resident blitzed forward and connected with punches.
But Teixeira responded by scoring a takedown, and then went to work from there. Teixeira got his opponent’s back on the ground and sunk in a rear-naked choke. Cirkunov escaped and flipped over, but Cirkunov got back mount and ended the bout with a flurry of punches.
“You know at my age everyone doubts you, but what you have to do is train hard and work on every aspect,’ Teixeira said after his 23d career finished and eighth submission. “I have to prove it every time in the octagon, prove myself and do the job.”
Teixeira improved to 27-6. He’s won two of his past three and five of his past seven. Cirkunov (13-4) has dropped two straight.
