Adrien Broner-Omar Figueroa targeted for spring

Broner has been out of action since getting outclassed by Mikey Garcia this past summer.

Adrien Broner, a former titleholder in four divisions, looks to be closing in on his next fight, sources tell RingTV. Broner (33-3, 24 KOs) is being mentioned for a spring fight where he would take on Omar Figueroa (27-0-1, 19 KOs) in a Showtime main event, eyed for either April or May.

The ‘Bag Talk’ man (for those of you who haven’t downloaded his new mixtape) has been on the sidelines since getting handled by Mikey Garcia in July — in a fight where Broner had a real opportunity to make a statement. Instead, Broner fought with what appeared to be little-or-no game plan and was thoroughly outboxed over 12 rounds. That was the third time Broner stepped up to the elite level, where he says he belongs, and the third time he came up short.

But how can Broner fight?! What about his legal issues stemming his rampage in Vegas a couple of months back, you ask? Not to worry, Broner raps about evading those charges on his ‘Wanted‘ mixtape as well:

“F*ck Nevada, I ain’t goin’ to that state,

with that warrant still riding with the K,

even though they say they caught it on the tape,

denying all charges in the judge face [b*tch!]”

Soo…I’ll just go ahead and assume this card won’t be targeted for the MGM Grand or anything.

Meanwhile Figueroa, 28, came back off a near two-year layoff when he knocked out Robert Guerrero, also over the summer. Both Figueroa and Broner are sort of tweeners between junior welterweight, so realistically they could meet at any weight between 140 and 147.
