Super flyweight Carlos Cuadras (36-2-1, 27 KOs) is looking to get things back on track following a unanimous decision loss to Juan Francisco Estrada last September. The former titlist has now linked up with Gennady Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez as he prepares to take on McWilliams Arroyo (16-3, 14 KOs) on HBO’s Superfly 2 card set for Feb. 24.
Cuadras last fight with Estrada was a close and compelling fight, with both fighters going back and forth over 12 rounds of action. Cuadras started fast but Estrada began picking up the pace as the rounds wore on and started getting to Cuadras. Cuadras didn’t back down, but may have expended too much energy early to keep Estrada from taking a number of later rounds. The fight ended up being so close that all three official judges has Estrada winning by one point, 114-113.
Now Cuadras is hoping that under the guidance of Abel Sanchez he’ll be able to tweak things enough to improve his style, which will hopefully land him back in a title fight sometime soon.
And we won’t have to wait long to see what kind of results the new duo produces together.
