By Sean Jones: Former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson says he agrees with the Gennady Golovkin vs. Saul Canelo Alvarez fight being scored a draw from their controversial fight on September 16 last year in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) admits that he was hoping that Canelo would win, but he agreed with the fight being scored a draw by the 3 judges that were assigned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Unfortunately, the boxing pubic doesn’t agree with the Canelo-GGG fight being scored a draw. They still largely felt that Golovkin should have won the fight. Canelo doing nothing from round 4-11 made it impossible for boxing fans to think that he deserves the win. That was 8 consecutive rounds where Canelo did nothing. Canelo came on in round 12, but he’d already given away every round from the 4th to the 11th.

“I was rooting for Canelo, but it was a draw. That was a good call,”said Mike Tyson to Fighthub in talking about the Canelo vs. Golovkin fight. “We’ll have to see,” Tyson said when asked who will win the Canelo-Golovkin rematch.

The negotiations for the Canelo-Golovkin rematch are still taking place between GGG’s promoter Tom Loeffler and Canelo’s promoters at Golden Boy Promotions. Loeffer says he’s hoping the rematch will take place, but he’s not sure. He says Golovkin is in Kazakhstan visiting his family, and he’ll be the one that makes the final call about the rematch.

Tyson says his favorite fighter right now is WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (10-1, 8 KOs), who recently beat Guillermo Rigondeaux.

“A guy from Ukraine called Lomachenko,” Tyson said when asked who the best fighter in boxing is. “He did really well [against Guillermo Rigondeaux]. He always does really well. I think so, yes,” said Tyson about Lomachenko being the best.

Lomachenlo could fight Manny Pacquiao in 2018 if their promoter Bob Arum is able to set up a fight between them. Arum wants to see the two of them face each other. If Pacquiao doesn’t fight the winner of the Jeff Horn vs. Terence Crawford fight, he might wind up battling Lomachenko this year. It would be a good mega-fight for Pacquiao to retire on.

Tyson doesn’t sound too impressed with last summer’s Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Conor McGregor fight on PPV in Las Vegas.

“That was a real show. That’s what it turned out to be, a show,” Tyson said about the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Conor McGregor fight from last August.

Tyson’s thoughts on the Mayweather-McGregor fight are like what a lot of boxing fans are saying. They saw the fight as show, but they didn’t feel that it was a fight. The main criticism that Mayweather has received from fans is he fought like he was taking it easy on McGregor by fighting at quarter speed, and not trying his hardest. It looked like Mayweather was carrying McGregor so he wouldn’t beat him too quickly and make the fans angry.
