Groves-Eubank, Garcia-Rios, more: Boxing fight times and TV schedule for February 16-17

ESPN, 9:00 pm ET, Ray Beltran vs Paulus Moses, Egis Kavaliauskas vs David Avanesyan. Beltran-Moses is for the vacant WBO 140-pound title, given up by Terence Crawford. It’s the fourth time Beltran will be gunning for a world title; he got robbed once, defeated soundly once, and missed weight then failed a drug test once. Kavaliauskas-Avanesyan is a long title for a fight, but an intriguing matchup that could provide good action. BLH will have live coverage.

Saturday, February 17

ITV Box Office (UK), 5:00 pm ET, George Groves vs Chris Eubank Jr. The World Boxing Super Series rolls on, as we move to the 168-pound semifinal round, and this is the first — and better — of those two fights. Groves and Eubank have talked plenty on the road to this one, and it’s a big domestic clash for a world title (I do not mean Eubank’s IBO belt) along with being a tournament bout. BLH will have live coverage.

FOX, 8:00 pm ET, Victor Ortiz vs Devon Alexander, Caleb Plant vs Rogelio Medina, Karlos Balderas vs Jorge Rojas. Ortiz-Alexander is either going to be two guys who desperately need a marquee-type win giving it their best, or a meeting of fighters who don’t have much in them anymore. Alexander lost three of four and took two years off before his return last November, a forgettable tune-up over Walter Castillo, and Ortiz is boxing’s ultimate wild card. There is really no telling what you’ll get, only that he doesn’t exactly have a record of responding well to adversity. Planet-Medina might really be the better fight here, but it also may not. If both Ortiz and Alexander are dialed in, this could have some sleeper potential — they’re 31 and 30, they’re not old. BLH will have live coverage.

SHO, 10:00 pm ET, Danny Garcia vs Brandon Rios, David Benavidez vs Ronald Gavril, Yordenis Ugas vs Ray Robinson. Rios’ mission here is to prove he has something left on this level, but this level has frankly never treated Rios kindly in the past, anyway. The closest to Danny Garcia he has in his past are Manny Pacquiao and Tim Bradley, and they both beat him up pretty good. But Rios says he’s rejuvenated and ready to prove everyone wrong, and Garcia hasn’t fought in about a year. The Benavidez-Gavril rematch is a good one on paper, and Ugas-Robinson is an eliminator at 147, with the winner in line for a shot at Errol Spence Jr. BLH will have live coverage.
