In a welterweight clash of former champs, Victor Ortiz (32-6-3, 25 KO’s) fought to a majority draw with Devon Alexander (27-4-1, 14 KO’s) in a fight of two very distinct halves, at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas.
Devon was neat and effective winning most of the first six rounds, jarring Victor’s bull like charges with some smart and smarting counters, so much so that the bigger man’s left eye swelled badly.
Characteristically Victor, who’s nickname is “Vicious” weathered the storm, soaked it up and came storming back to dominate the second half of the ten rounder. The scores were 115-113 for Ortiz and 114-114 twice. An exciting clash, which now demands a rematch.
