wbcBy WBCnews

It was 1978, and one of the most extraordinary, fierce, unrelenting confrontations  in boxing ignited  between WBC lightweight champion, Roberto Duran and Esteban de Jesus, with the great Roberto prevailing by KO in a torrid twelfth.

That day a searing rivalry was finally concluded. It all started on November 17, 1972 at Madison Square Garden, New York in a non title bout, when a glowering Duran and a grinning De Jesus collided  for the very first time.

Duran vs. De Jesús III, took place at the Caesar´s Palace in Las Vegas, presented by the popular promoter, Don King. It first title bout celebrated in a casino of Las Vegas.

The decider, because each had won one encounter previously,  welled up, growing in intensity. The crowd was thrilled, on their feet and roaring. A moment that will be recorded eternally in the sport, as an intensely irrestible Duran  prevailed, overcoming and overwhelming Esteban, to finally prove he was the more powerful. This was the last time Duran fought as a lightweight.

If you want to know more stories and more facts about the legendary Panamanian fighting superstar, you simply can’t miss  “Hands of Stone”, to be premiered in USA Cinemas on August 26.
