Octagon newcomer Alexander Hernandez is stepping in on less than two weeks’ notice to keep a UFC 222 fight alive, officials announced Friday.
Hernandez, 25, is stepping in for Bobby Green, who suffered an undisclosed injury and was forced to withdraw from his lightweight bout vs. Beneil Dariush at the March 3 pay-per-view event in Las Vegas.
Fighting out of San Antonio, Hernandez sports an 8-1 record. He most recently picked up a third-round TKO victory over Derrick Adkins at Legacy Fighting Alliance 27 last November.
Dariush (14-3-1) will be looking for his first win since Nov. 5, 2016, a unanimous decision nod over Rashid Magomedov at The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America 3 Finale. In two appearances last year, Dariush was knocked out by Edson Barboza and then he fought to a majority draw against Evan Dunham.
