The CSAC has revoked Jon Jones’ license and fined him $205,000 for testing positive for steroid Turinabol. The former UFC light heavyweight champion took to social media to issue a brief statement about the hearing.
I want to thank csac for taking the time and hearing my case, and executive officer Andy Foster for saying he believes me.
Foster agreed with the CSAC’s sanctions, and will defer to USADA about his eventual suspension. While Jones’ legal team didn’t provide evidence to support their claims, they maintain innocence and say that it could’ve been from a tainted supplement.
Foster somewhat agreed, saying it “makes no sense for him to take this drug on a test that he knows is coming.”
“I think we should revoke his license,” Foster eventually said. “That’s what my recommendation is. I don’t think Mr. Jones gets to be a professional mixed martial artist right now. That’s what I believe. Let him deal with USADA, let USADA give their discipline, whatever it’s going to be. When that’s completed, I would be inclined to support Mr. Jones’s application to return to this commission and get his license back.”
The CSAC didn’t hand down their own suspension, but at the end of the day, there were many issues with Jones’ testimony that could lead him into trouble with USADA. From admitting his manager forged his signature, to confessing to lying on doping control forms, Jones could befacing some very stiff punishments.
