Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya is a pretty funny guy — especially when he’s not even really trying.
Last night De La Hoya took to Twitter to congratulate Deontay Wilder for his emphatic win over Luis Ortiz on Saturday, but couldn’t resist adding in an extra lil’ tidbit to goad Wilder into leaving his current promoter Lou DiBella.
@BronzeBomber congratulations on such a great accomplishment when everyone doubted you, hit me up when you wanna make real money and have someone who will promote you to be a PPV star.
In a more organized professional sports league this would be an obvious case of ‘tampering,’ but boxing being what it is, this is probably just your standard business — albeit not usually conducted in such a shamelessly public way.
Either way, I’m sure Lou DiBella isn’t quite thrilled with De La Hoya’s “well-wishes” here, and might even perceive this to be precursor for a tortious interference claim should Wilder attempt to jump ship. But that’s all hypothetical at this point.
That said, does anyone here have faith that if Wilder aligned himself with Golden Boy — knowing their modus operandi — that we’d be any closer to seeing a highly anticipated showdown with Anthony Joshua?
