Makwan Amirkhani returns to the Octagon for the first time in over a year when he faces formerly ranked featherweight, Jason Knight, at UFC Liverpool on May 27 at the Echo Arena.
The fight was first reported by Swedish website, Viaplay Fighting, and was subsequently announced by the UFC on Wednesday evening.
Both fighters come into the fight off losses. Amirkhani lost the first fight of his UFC tenure when he came up short against Arnold Allen at last year’s London event, UFC Fight Night 107, after taking three wins in a row under the banner.
Knight has suffered two consecutive losses to Ricardo Lamas and Gabriel Benitez since compiling the four fight-win streak that saw him claim a rankings spot.
This marks the third time in a row that Amirkhani will compete on U.K. soil. He has yet to compete outside of Europe since his debut with the promotion, an eight-second knockout overAndy Ogle, in Jan. 2015.
Knight competes in Europe for the first time in his professional career when he meets “Mr. Finland”. The only time he has competed outside the U.S. was when he met Dan Hooker at UFC Melbourne, where he claimed a unanimous decision win.
