As heavyweight titleholders Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker close in on fight week, with their unification bout set for next Saturday, Parker tells Sky Sports that he’s noticed what he believes to be some insecurities Joshua has about his game. Parker specifically references Joshua’s plans to come into this fight lighter than usual, perhaps trying to increase his speed and mobility.
“If he trusted in his body, he wouldn’t be trying to change who he is,” said Parker, about Joshua’s plans to weigh-in lighter.
”He’s trying to be faster and leaner – I don’t know if he is trying to be him or me? We will be lighter. Faster, stronger, better movement.”
Parker also said he’s been watching Joshua’s thrilling fight with Klitschko over and over in the gym, spotting things he thinks he can do better than Klitschko in order to get the upper-hand on Joshua. Parker also expects that fans will inaccurately estimate what he’ll be bringing to the table based on his last few performances, but that gives him ‘the element of surprise.’
Parker says he’s now reestablished his jab in this training camp, and that punch is going to play a significant role during this fight — something he’ll use to set up his attacks.
Will that be enough to derail the steam train that is Anthony Joshua? We won’t have to wait very much longer to find out.
