It’s fight week! And as we lead into this weekend’s heavyweight title unification between champions Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker, Joshua tells ESPN that Parker and his trainer are going to have to eat their words once they find out that he’s more than they expect him to be.
“I just want him to realise that everything they say, when he goes back to his corner in round one, I just want him to realise his trainer lied to him.”
Joshua says he’ll match Parker for speed, combination punching, and footwork while also saying Parker is in for a rude awakening if he expects him to gas out by the mid-rounds. And by that time he fully expects Parker to come to terms with being in deep with ‘a real one.’
“One-hundred per cent I will break his spirit and mentality. If the opportunity comes then it happens. Even Mike Tyson went a few rounds now and again, even though he was devastating puncher.”
Joshua finishes by mentioning that now with 20 professional fights under his belt he’s starting to feel really comfortable in the ring, and that he’s going to put on a calculating performance rather than just try to bang his opponent out of there.
