Demetrius Andrade ready to step in against Gennady Golovkin on May 5

With there at least being some speculation that the scheduled rematch between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin is in danger of falling apart over Canelo’s failed drug test, Demetrius Andrade (25-0, 16 KOs) is raising his hand to let it be known he’s ready to take Canelo’s place.

“I am ready, willing and able to step to the plate on May 5th to fight Golovkin,” stated Andrade. “I am always in the gym, and I will start VADA testing right now. I guarantee that I will pass all the tests. I know other fighters can’t say the same thing.

”I am undefeated, and a two-time world champion. Golovkin went through a period where nobody wanted to fight him. I am that guy now. The man nobody wants to fight.”

Andrade, 30, has to be one of the most frustrating talents in the game right now. He has all the tools and skill to perhaps crack the P4P list, but his fights are few and far in between and he doesn’t seem to have the promotional clout to get him in with other big names in the sport. And even after having a falling out with Star Boxing/Banner Promotions a couple years back, he still wound up re-signing with the companies.

Andrade is most recently coming off a less-than-thrilling win over Alantez Fox last October, which followed an uninspired split decision win over Jack Culcay last March. The clock is seriously ticking if Andrade plans on making any real noise in the sport.
