Former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping might be quasi-retired, but Yoel Romero wants to see the Brit back in the Octagon ASAP.
Romero, who is scheduled for a championship rematch with Robert Whittaker at the upcomingUFC 224 pay-per-view on June 9, was in attendance for UFC 223 this past weekend and sent a message to ‘The Count’.
Yoel Romero has a message for @bisping, but he doesn’t seem too concerned
“Mike, You continue training? Please. Please continue training because I want to see you soon. I want to see you soon. You know (motions to break something) I love you.”
Bisping, who hasn’t decided whether he will return to the UFC for an official retirement bout, laughed at Romero’s romantic (?) call out on the UFC 223 post-fight show and told ‘Soldier of God’ to ‘get a grip’.
“What is this, fancy dress, Yoel? I can’t take you serious when you look like some kind of 70’s pimp! Yoel, ‘I love you too, baby!’” Bisping said in his best Cuban impersonation. “I don’t need to train for you.
“Get a grip, Yoel”.
Bisping and Romero’s love-hate relationship started when Bisping ripped up a Cuban flag atUFC 213. Romero, 40, responded by burning a picture of the union jack and the two middleweights have gone back-and-forth for the past year.
Romero, though, insists that his main focus is on avenging his loss to Robert Whittaker and winning the UFC 185-pound title. Whittaker beat Romero in an interim title bout last year and was later promoted to official middleweight champion.
“The rematch with Robert Whittaker? That’s what I now think of every day, about my rematch with Robert,” Romero said.
UFC 225: Whittaker vs. Romero 2 takes place later this year, June 9 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
