James DeGale: When I’m injury free, it’s hard to beat me

James DeGale regained his IBF world super middleweight title at the weekend and insists he has more to give.

After a shock defeat to Caleb Truax in December, DeGale admitted he could retire if he didn’t win Saturday’s rematch in Las Vegas.

’Chunky’ was made to work hard and had to overcome a nasty cut, as well as a spirited effort from Truax, to win a unanimous decision with scores of 117-110 and 114-113 (twice).

”Two-time world champion and it feels great. When I’m fit and injury free, people are going to find it hard to beat me. Me on my day, I’m switched on and very hard to beat,” the 32-year-old said after the fight.

”Two-and-half years I had that belt for and I lost it to Truax last December. He embarrassed me and I’ve come back and I’ve got back my title.”

The first Briton to win Olympic gold and a world title could now be in line for some huge bouts.

Old rival George Groves is one obvious candidate, but the Londoner is set to face Callum Smith in the World Boxing Super Series in the summer. Gilberto Ramirez and David Benavidez also hold the WBO and WBC belts at 168lbs respectively.

”I’m a proud IBF World Champion and I’m back, I’m back, Team Chunky, we’re back! I want to be busy,” DeGale added. “I have a couple years left in this sport.”
