19-year-old Devin Haney (18-0, 12 KOs) has a bright future in boxing by almost all accounts. And now the young prospect is positioning himself to compete for a major world title in the near future should he be able to beat Mason Menard (33-2, 24 KOs) for the IBF’s vacant USBA lightweight title on May 11. The fight will air on Showtime’s ShoBox: The New Generationseries.
Haney, who trains out of Las Vegas, has been getting some top flight experience as he’s been sparring against Jessie Vargas as he prepares to take on Adrien Broner this weekend. That said, Haney has yet to face a real credible opponent thus far in his career but hopes to make a statement in this fight.
“This fight against Menard is very important to me and my brand. I want to show the world that I’m the next big star in boxing. A dominating win against Menard on SHOWTIME will give the fans a taste of what I’m all about.”
Meanwhile Menard is coming off a bounce-back win over Carlos Cardenas over a year ago, which was his first fight since getting knocked out by Ray Beltran at the end of 2016.
