UFC Atlantic City results: Dan Hooker scores first-round knockout of Jim Miller

For someone who traveled halfway around the world, Dan Hooker sure seemed in a rush to finish his work on Saturday night.

The Auckland, New Zealand native came all the way out to Jim Miller’s New Jersey backyard and made a statement, using perfectly placed knee to the head to score a knockout victory in a lightweight bout at UFC Atlantic City. The time of the bout was 3:00 of the opening round.

The durable Miller, who was fighting a record-tying (along with Michael Bisping) 29th time in the UFC, had his moments in the bout, showing dogged tenacity to finish a single-leg takedown.

But it only postponed the inevitable. Hooker landed the knee and added another punch before referee Gary Copeland could wave things off, the 10th first-round knockout of his career.

After the bout, Hooker added a twist, telling in-octagon interviewer Paul Felder he’d like to face him next.

“I want a ranked opponent next, I just happen to be standing next to another ranked opponent,” Hooker told Felder.

Hooker (16-7) has now won three in a row and four of five. Miller (28-12, 1 NC) has lost four in a row.
