During another press conference held today by Tyson Fury, the former heavyweight titleholder credited Deontay Wilder as giving him the motivation to sort out his difficulties and make his way back to boxing.
“I can’t say how delighted I am,” Fury said at Thursday’s press conference. “It was Deontay Wilder who spurred me on where he said I couldn’t do it, couldn’t return. He said Tyson Fury is done. I can have a hand tied behind my back and beat Wilder.
“I was walking my dog along the canal and I looked at myself and thought ‘you fat pig’. I felt like jumping in and drowning myself. The fire is back now. I’m ready to fight today, tomorrow, whenever.
Fury, who is scheduled to make his return to the ring on June 9 (against an opponent who has still yet to be named) continues to tout himself as the lineal heavyweight champion and says his two years away from the sport has refreshed him as he never had a break from the sport since he was a child.
Frank Warren, who now has Fury signed to a multi-fight deal, says the biggest fight out there for Fury is a showdown with Anthony Joshua. That, however, would likely be at least a couple of fights away considering Fury’s lengthy absence from the ring.
