GL: Congrats on your victory, can you give us some thoughts on your performance? Thank you very much! It was lovely to hear all congratulations from people who were supporting me all the time. This fight was a difficult and different challenge to win because my opponent was very experienced and it was clear that he watched all my previous performances and prepared himself against my method. However, I’m still not much satisfied with my own performance because I didn’t score the knockout. I am going to work hard to make my country proud.

GL: Were you surprised Wing was able to last the full ten rounds? Was there anything about him that surprised you?

Shohjahon Ergashev: “Yes, it was the first time in my career that the fight went 10 rounds, actually I was planning to make it maximum 5-6 round, but Wing was strong enough to protect himself from me and it was very surprising for me and for my fans as well that he made me fight until the last round. Very good learning experience that will only make me better.

GL: What was going the full ten rounds for the first time like?

SE: “Honestly, it was not much tiring for me because I used to train for 12-14 rounds with my coach and I also wanted to check myself whether I can fight with a full power till the end or not. And the result was satisfying. Critics were doubting what would happen if my fights go past third round I showed that I am in condition to fight 15.”

GL: What do you feel like you need to improve on moving forward?

SE: “Every boxer has his own strength and weaknesses, so do I. It is just the beginning of my career and I did not show my full power and arsenal to the whole world, and I am still working on myself in order to be more ready for the coming fights. Because, the next fights will be more difficult with even more experienced and powerful opponents. In the future, I have to work on showing more interesting fight with more knock outs. I am going back to the gym to perfect my skills and take my boxing to a different level.”

GL: What do you want this victory to lead to?

SE: “I want this victory to lead me to even more victories and the whole world should recognize our Uzbekistan and the power of our sportsmen.”

GL: Is there anything you’d like to say in closing?

SE: “For now, I can’t tell exactly when I will be holding my next fight. But we are planning to make a new fight soon, so we will announce later.”
