Sun kissed Cancun Boxing led by Pepe Gomez trudged all the way to a chilly, rainy Mexico City, to announce the May 19th Playa del Carmen extravaganza in which WBC female light flyweight champion, Esmeralda Moreno will defend her crown against new generation challenger Yessenia Gómez.
Esmeralda Moreno assured that this fight, close to sea, sand and trees called Palm, will provide much needed balm, commenting:
“I come from a very painful defeat, I fell in front of the best flyweight in the world and although it was a very serious setback, I learned from my mistakes and today I can tell you that I am a much more mature fighter.
“I feel very excited to travel to paradise Playa del Carmen, but more so, to be able to return to the grid and prove because I am the world champion.
” I have prepared myself to the fullest, because I am aware of the danger that Yessenia represents, as a new generation with a hunger for triumph. However, recovering the title cost me four years and I assure you that I will not allow anyone to take what also belongs to my daughter. I will defend my belt not only with my fists but also with my heart ”
Yessenia, who was calm and collected, but obviously relishing the prospect of the challenge said:
“I am a very blessed woman, because I have the opportunity to go for the dream of my life, which is the green and gold belt.
“I have prepared as never before, because I recognize the quality and experience that Esmeralda has, I am sure we will give a terrific show worthy of the public.”
