As Badou Jack prepares to take on Adonis Stevenson this weekend, the light heavyweight fighter was asked about his thoughts on James DeGale’s most recent performance against Caleb Truax.
“I wasn’t so impressed,” Jack exclusively told Sky Sports. “All the tough fights he’s been through, I think he’s not the same fighter anymore.
”But he always shows heart, he’s got a lot of heart, but I wasn’t impressed with his last performance.”
Jack continued to mention that he believed that fight could’ve gone either way and that he would love to fight in the UK before his career is finished — even in a potential rematch against DeGale, with whom he drew in early 2017.
But for that to happen Jack insists that DeGale would need to come up to light heavyweight as he says his body just can’t make the 168lb limit any longer.
“If he comes up to light-heavyweight, and he continues to win, maybe yeah.
”But I can’t make super-middleweight no more, so if you want to come up, sure. You’ve got to ask him if he wants it.”
That scenario is probably a long shot so I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were any of you. It would be a dangerous proposition for a fighter who is considered shopworn to move up in weight to take on even bigger, stronger men. DeGale is still capable, but he has seemed to have lost something after the numerous battles he’s been through lately.
