As Terence Crawford gets ready to make his welterweight debut on June 9 in Las Vegas, competing for Jeff Horn’s WBO title, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says that both fighters have the opportunity to become a star at 147.

“If you talk about boxing skills there’s no question they belong to Crawford but when you talk about size, strength and determination you have to give Horn a very good chance,” Arum said. “I don’t know who will win this fight, a lot will depend on the determination of the two boxers.

”All I know is that it will be a good, hard fought competitive match. The winner of this fight will be considered the big superstar of the welterweight division.”

Horn (18-0-1, 12 KOs) really arrived on the scene following his huge upset win over Manny Pacquiao in July 2017 — despite a lot of folks believing that Pacquiao rightfully deserved to take that fight on the scorecards. But sometimes that just the way the cookie crumbles when you chase the cash to fight in someone else’s backyard. Horn since when on to make one successful title defense by stopping Gary Corcoran that December.

Meanwhile Crawford (32-0, 23 KOs) is one of the very best pound-for-pound fighters in boxing, and he’ll be looking to make a statement by crashing the 147lb division after becoming undisputed junior welterweight champion last August. Crawford is obviously expected to hand Horn’s ass to him, but Horn has proven that he can be a rough and tumble fighter that may not make it easy on Crawford.

Arum also mentions that should Horn pull off the win in a good fight, he thinks there’s a chance we’ll see a sequel Down Under.
