Badlefthook.com

Josh Warrington secured his first world title in his native Leeds today, defeating Lee Selby in a bloody grudge match to take the IBF featherweight belt. The local boy won a split decision on scores of 116-112, 115-113, and 113-115.

What a fight. What a night.

Josh Warrington is Leeds’ first ever world champion after beating Lee Selby by decision 👏👏👏

A quick look at Twitter suggests that judge Alan Davis, who had it for Selby, isn’t terribly well-regarded at the moment.

115-113 for Selby…116-112 for Warrington…. and 115-113 for….. Josh Warrington the new IBF featherweight champion. Sorry, no way that was a split decision type of bout…

Selby (26-2, 9 KO) thus ends his reign after four successful defenses. Warrington (27-0, 6 KO), who entered the fight as a +325 underdog, may not be able to hit to save his life, but the dude can clearly fight. Though his highest-rated contender is Kid Galahad, I don’t think anyone would be opposed to seeing him fight Carl Frampton.

Jack Catterall, Nicola Adams, and Ohara Davies picked up wins as well.
