So much for that Alexander Gustafsson vs. Luke Rockhold fight. At least for now.
The bout, which had been discussed for what was expected to be a light heavyweight matchup atUFC 227 in Los Angeles on Aug. 4, was never officially announced.
But a leg injury suffered by the former UFC middleweight champion has put those talks on ice for now, MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani reported Tuesday.
Rockhold, who suffered the leg injury last week in training, posted a graphic video in which he received stitches in the injured leg (WARNING: GRAPHIC).
Luke Rockhold reinjured his leg in training late last week and is now definitely not fighting Alexander Gustafsson this summer. I’m told he’s hoping to return in October, at the earliest. Here’s a video he provided to me of his shin getting stitched up. (Warning: GRAPHIC)
And if that video wasn’t enough for you, here’s another of the stitching.
Rockhold, who was knocked out by Yoel Romero at UFC 221 in his most recent bout, hopes to return to action by October. Gustafsson, for his part, has not fought since a ‘Fight of the Night’ knockout of Glover Teixeira last May 28.
