David Carmona has another big opportunity coming this Saturday in Fresno, when he faces WBA “world” titleholder Khalid Yafai in the co-feature of a big super flyweight card headlined by Jerwin Ancajas vs Jonas Sultan.

Carmona (21-5-5, 9 KO) says he’s going to push for a KO:

“We’re going to base ourselves on attacking him, on hitting him, on pressing him all the time and not letting him do his strategy. I’m going to go out and push for the knockout. What better way than crowning yourself as world champion with a knockout?”

This might not be the soundest strategy, as Carmona isn’t the biggest puncher in the first place, but honestly, what strategy is sound for him? Yafai (23-0, 14 KO) is a significant favorite and expected to win handily. Carmona won his last bout, but dropped three straight before that, notably losing to Naoya Inoue and Carlos Cuadras, but then to 13-4 Daniel Lozano via second round knockout, too.

I say go for it. To hell with it! How many “world title” shots does anyone get? (In the case of Carmona, at least three, as he also lost to Omar Narvaez in 2013.)
