Golovkin vs Brook, Gonzalez vs Cuadras, more: Boxing fight times and TV schedule for September 9-10 45

Spike, 9:00 pm ET, Daniel Jacobs vs Sergio Mora II, Robert Easter Jr vs Richard Commey. Very interested in the co-feature here, as I am an unabashed Easter fan and believe he’s the best lightweight prospect in the sport, and one of the top three or five overall. Commey is dangerous on paper, an undefeated puncher, so we won’t know until we know. The main event is a rematch that does make sense, really, even if nobody was dying to see it. Mora and Jacobs dropped one another in the first round of their fight 13 months ago, then Mora hurt his ankle on another knockdown in the second, and had to retire from the fight. That’s the last time he’s been in action, which could be a problem. BLH will have live coverage.

Sky Box Office (UK), 1:00 pm ET, Lee Haskins vs Stuart Hall, Callum Smith vs Norbert Nemesapati, John Riel Casimero vs Charlie Edwards. Two IBF title fights! The card also features Martin J. Ward vs Andy Townend for the British 130-pound title, plus Paul Smith in action, and Conor Benn’s latest fight. The headline fight here is Golovkin-Brook, but we’ll talk about that next. HBO / Sky Box Office (UK), 5:30 pm ET, Gennady Golovkin vs Kell Brook. Well, it’s here. It’s happening. It’s interesting in a novelty way, and Brook and his team hope to be more than that. It’s also a huge risk for Brook in a fight no one was asking him to take, so due respect there. For Golovkin, it’s a disappointment. He wanted Canelo, and the other middleweights want nothing to do with him. So it’s what it is. That doesn’t make it good, but it’s what it is. BLH will have live coverage.

HBO, 10:00 pm ET, Carlos Cuadras vs Roman Gonzalez, Yoshihiro Kamegai vs Jesus Soto Karass II. Cuadras-Gonzalez is a VERY interesting fight, don’t sleep on it. Gonzalez is going up in weight to super flyweight, looking to win a world title in a third division, but everyone has their limit in how high they can go and still be the sort of effective they were previously. Is this Gonzalez stepping a bit too far? We’ll see. Cuadras is a very good fighter, arguably the best 115-pounder in the world today. This is anything but an easy fight on paper for Chocolatito. The co-feature is a rematch between Kamegai and Soto Karass, who beat the hell out of each other earlier this year on Estrella TV, and are getting the sort of stage they deserve for the rematch.
