Khan wants Pacquiao-Matthysse winner, says Brook must meet him at 147

Amir Khan talks about his upcoming fight with Samuel Vargas and the fights he wants afterwards.

Amir Khan chats it up with our friends at Fight Hub TV and discusses what he has planned for this next phase of his career and what he’s been up to. Check out what he had after announcing Samuel Vargas as his next opponent:

“It’s all about keeping myself busy, getting the big fights in and keep the boxing going.”

Khan on what he we can expect from Samuel Vargas as an opponent:

“I mean Vargas is a tough opponent. I mean, I can honestly say he’s a better fighter than Lo Greco. Not giving any disrespect to Lo Greco but Lo Greco was just caught with a good clean shot early in the fight, that’s what put him away.

“Now Vargas has been in with bigger opposition, better fighters, and it’s all about, really, being smart and boxing smart really, and getting some good rounds on in me, you know? He believes that he can cause an upset, he believes he can do what Breidis Prescott Did to me but it’s all about me being smart and not making any mistakes in this fight.”

On what his future plans are after this fight:

“This fight is an eliminator for the WBA title. So being in an eliminator, that gives me the chance to fight the winner of Manny Pacquiao and Lucas Matthysse. So, I’m getting close to them world title fights now.

“Pacquiao, if he wins that fight, that would be amazing. I’ve been chasing Manny Pacquiao for a long, long time so now to get that fight, being a mandatory he can’t turn it down.”

On talks of him facing Terence Crawford:

“I mean we never really got close [to making that fight] but there were talks about it. Look, I wanna fight the biggest names but obviously I just need another fight in between and I just took this fight quickly. But like I said, there’s some big fights out there on the other side, but it’s all about me now winning this fight in good style, in good fashion, then moving on to the big fights.”

On his schedule being aligned with Kell Brook and if that’s a possibility:

“That’s definitely in the pipeline. Look, I’d like to get that fight done, I’d like to have that big fight with Kell Brook and we’re only getting closer to it — being with Eddie Hearn, being with Matchroom, we’re only getting closer — so, yeah. That’s something we’re working towards as well.

“I mean it has to be at 147 and Kell, at my last fight when he was interviewed, admitted that he would come down and yes, the fight is gonna be at 147. So look, he has to agree to our terms. The fight has to be made, let’s do it at 147. I want the fight. Honestly, let’s do it man.”
