Hearn: Khan would be a tough style for Crawford

In this video interview with Fight Hype, Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn talks a bit about Amir Khan’s upcoming fight against Samuel Vargas, what he thinks is coming down the line for Khan, and why he thinks Khan has a good style to beat Terence Crawford. Check it out…

“[Khan and Vargas are] both in the top 10 and obviously you’ve got Pacquiao fighting Matthysse, so that’s the regular belt. But forgetting the regular belt and the super belt, its just a good champion. So we may request the WBA that [Khan-Vargas] is a final eliminator for the winner of Pacquiao versus Matthysse.

“Khan’s been chasing the Pacquiao fight for a long time. I wanted Amir to fight Kell Brook really, but we’ll see what happens. Vargas is a stand up guy — I wanted someone in between, you know, the Pacquiaos and the elite guys and Phil Lo Greco, and I found Sammy Vargas who’s about in the middle. He’s gonna be game, he’s decent, Khan hasn’t done the rounds — he did 30 seconds against Phil Lo Greco.

“I’m hoping Vargas can give him some rounds, test him, hit him on the chin and, you know, if [Khan] comes through he has to dive into those big fights. You know, the Brook fight, the Pacquiao fight. You know, styles make fights, and people may say ‘Eddie, what are you talking about?!’ — Khan’s a tough fight for Crawford. You know there are certain styles where Crawford is unbeatable. But Khan is a good style to try and beat Crawford.

“Crawford, by the way, is immense, one of my favorite fighters pound for pound. But, you know, all those guys would happily take an Amir Khan fight. And he still has the pull, and the draw, and the excitement, and the speed to be in those big fights.”
