As Andre Berto (31-5, 24 KOs) gets ready to take on Devon Alexander (27-4-1, 14 KOs) in what is really a do-or-die fight for Berto at this point, the 31-year-old fighter talks a little about the match-up and why he’s looking forward to the opportunity.
“This is a great fight that has been a long time coming,” said Berto.
“I’ve had a lot of success with southpaws. I’m looking forward to seeing him in front of me and capitalizing on what I’m working on now,” he added.
Berto is most recently coming off of a stoppage loss at the hands of Shawn Porter in April 2017 and has had over a year to lick his wounds. That said, Berto has gone 5-5 in his last 10 fights and perhaps his best win was over Josesito Lopez in early 2015. There are plenty who think Berto has very little, if not nothing, left in the tank, and this will likely be his last chance try and make run at a world title.
Meanwhile Alexander, 31, is coming off a questionable draw against Victor Ortiz earlier this year in a fight many believe he deserved to win. That fight aside, Alexander has gone 6-4 in his last 10 and has also appeared to have plateaued some time ago.
Alexander, like Berto, is in desperate needs of a notable win if he’s going work his way back into title contention. And while Berto may no longer qualify as a ‘big win’ in the eyes of many, he still holds enough name value to make this fight worthwhile.
So considering the style match-up between these two, who do you favor to win in their upcoming clash?
