Can’t say I saw this one coming.
According to both The Ring and USA Today, former multi-division champion Miguel Cotto and former super lightweight titlist Lamont Peterson are on a collision course for December 3rd, possibly in Cotto’s traditional stomping grounds of New York.
Cotto’s promoters, Roc Nation, will reportedly announce the fight next week.
Cotto (40-5, 33 KO) has not fought since losing his middleweight belt last November in a catchweight bout with Canelo Alvarez. He was last seen targeting a bout with Juan Manuel Marquez, which fell apart due to disagreements over weight.
Peterson (34-3-1, 17 KO) has also been out of action for quite some time; more specifically, since he scraped past Felix Diaz last October. He’d previously put in a heroic effort against Danny Garcia, only to lose via majority decision. He’s never weighed in above 144 pounds, but has expressed a willingness to step up in weight for big fights.
We’ll pass along the specific location, undercard bouts, and other such details when they become available.
