Anderson Silva fires back at ‘crazy’ Daniel Cormier: He is ‘very lucky’ Jones isn’t around

Anderson Silva didn’t take kindly to Daniel Cormier’s recent comments on his standing in the pound-for-pound discussion.

Earlier this month, ‘DC’ said Silva and Jon Jones should be removed from the p4p rankings because of their tarnished history with performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs).

“So for as great as Anderson Silva was, he tested positive I think two times. Jones has tested positive two or three times. Those guys eliminate themselves,” Cormier said.

Silva, the former middleweight champ, tested positive for steroids in 2015 and was suspended for one year. His win over Nick Diaz was overturned to a No Contest (NC). ‘The Spider’ also failed a drug test in 2017 but the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) ruled that the Brazilian had unknowingly taken a tainted supplement and was cleared of any wrongdoing.

Jones, whose latest win over Cormier was overturned to a NC after the JacksonWink product tested positive for steroids, also tested positive for PEDs in 2016 and was suspended for one year.

Despite this, Silva believes Jones is still the best light heavyweight in the world and called Cormier ‘very lucky’ for winning the title in Jones’ absence.

“When you talk about people, you need to be careful because you never know about your life,” Silva told CBS Sports in a recent interview. “You never know about your future. I think Daniel is very lucky and completely lucky because never beating Jon Jones, of course, because Jon Jones in my opinion is the best fighter at 205. I respect Danny, but when he is talking about me and Jon Jones, he’s completely crazy because Jon Jones is the best fighter.”

Cormier, 39, shot to the top of the pound-for-pound rankings after beating Stipe Miocic to become the UFC’s first ever simultaneous light heavyweight and heavyweight champion at UFC 226. The American Kickboxing Academy standout is expected to defend both titles before hanging up the gloves and calling it a career.

Silva, who was formerly considered the greatest fighter of all time, could return to the Octagon as early as November, while Jones, 31, could face a whopping four-year suspension for his latest failed drug test.
