Two of the MMA’s outstanding welterweight prospects are set to collide for a second time at KSW 45 in London, when former promotional champion Roberto Soldic gets a chance to avenge his title loss to South African, Dricus Du Plessis.
KSW confirmed the fight with MMA Fighting, which takes place on Oct. 6 at London’s Wembley Arena. The fight was first reported by Lowking.pl last week.
The welterweight duo first clashed at KSW 43 in Wroclaw, where the EFC double-weight champion, Du Plessis, overcame an early storm from the Croatian southpaw to claim a second round win. Despite being dropped early on, Du Plessis caught Soldic with a check left hook in the second round that spelled the beginning of the end for “Robocop”.
Du Plessis’ (12-1-0) win streak improved to eight with his KSW title capture. Ahead of his signing with the Polish promotion he won both EFC’s middleweight and welterweight titles. His only career loss came against UFC veteran Garreth McLellan when he faced the experienced campaigner for his EFC middleweight title back in 2014. McClellan took a third round victory via guillotine.
Soldic (13-3-0) saw a run of seven consecutive victories snapped with his KSW 43 loss. His viral knockout of Lew Long and his title capture over Borys Mankowski had cemented his status as the favorite heading into his showdown with Du Plessis. MMA Fighting highlighted Soldic as one of the 10 European prospects to watch in 2018.
Both fighters have yet to compete since their meeting at KSW 43 in April.
KSW have already confirmed that newly crowned heavyweight champion, Phil De Fries, is set to defend his title against Karl Bedorf at the October event in London. Announced early today by MMA Fighting, the event will also host the two semi-final bouts from the promotion’s middleweight tournament — Scott Askham vs. Marcin Wojcik and Michal Materla vs. Damian Janikowski — following Mamed Khalidov’s vacation of the title.
