The UFC needs a new main event for the upcoming Fight Night card in Brazil after Glover Teixeirawas forced out of a light heavyweight bout with Jimi Manuwa at Sao Paulo’s Ibirapuera gymnasium on Sept. 22 due to a shoulder injury, sources confirmed to MMA Fighting following a report by ESPN.
Teixeira (27-7) accepted to a quick turnaround just weeks after a decision loss to Corey Andersonat UFC Hamburg. The Brazilian has bounced between wins and losses since 2016, when Anthony Johnson snapped a three-fight winning streak.
Manuwa (17-4) was looking to get back on track after consecutive losses to Volkan Oezdemir and Jan Blachowicz. “Poster Boy” stopped Ovince Saint Preux and Corey Anderson prior to those losses.
A bantamweight showdown between Ketlen Vieira and Tonya Evinger was slated for the co-main event. UFC Sao Paulo currently has 11 fights booked with the cancellation of Teixeira-Manuwa.
