Hearn: Good progress made on Bellew-Usyk fight

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn, who handles Tony Bellew, tells Sky Sports that talks for a Tony Bellew vs. Oleksandr Usyk fight have been progressing nicely and that he’s hopeful that both fighters will seal the deal. Bellew called out Usyk for what he said would be his last fight after Usyk became the undisputed cruiserweight champion following his WBSS tournament win.

“I had a very positive meeting in Paris yesterday and again today with Alexander Krassyuk from K2,” Hearn told Sky Sports.

“It’s not done, but we made some good progress and will continue those discussions over the next few days. Both fighters want the fight and I’m hopeful we can get it done.”

One of the main reasons this fight is being thrown out as Bellew’s last is because Bellew himself says that although this is a winnable fight for him, he’ll have to take some real punishment to be able to top Usyk. Bellew seems to feel that it’s worth the risk, though, in order for him to claim the title of undisputed champion.

Bellew is most recently coming off two stoppage wins over David Haye after he ventured up to heavyweight to challenge the British star. He’s now looking to come back down to the weight class where he’s probably better suited.
