‘Pitbull’ Freire has strong words for Darrion Caldwell, James Gallagher after Bellator 204

Bellator 204 took place Friday night in Sioux Falls, S.D., and featherweight champion Patricio Freire wasn’t impressed by what he saw.

In one of the most anticipated fights of the night, James Gallagher moved down to bantamweight to face Ricky Bandejas and ended up losing by first-round knockout. The Irishman was already aiming at title bouts with Darrion Caldwell and “Pitbull” at both 135 and 145 pounds, but suffered his first defeat in MMA.

“First of all, you have to work to prove how good you are,” Freire told MMA Fighting on Friday night. “What happens at McGregor’s team is that they all talk like Conor McGregor but they don’t do what he does. They try to do it. They gain notoriety by talking, and that’s a mistake. Tonight’s fight prove it.”

“He was decimated in the Bellator cage by a guy that was making his Bellator debut,” Freire continued. “(Bandejas) has a future, I believe he will be a great athlete at 135 pounds, but (Gallagher) was knocked out by someone that is still unknown.

”Not taking anything away from (Bandejas), but for the love of God… (Gallagher) was talking about fighting the bantamweight champion and fighting me. He has no clue about anything. He trains, he fights, but he doesn’t know where he stands. He’s in the lowest level of the sport and is talking crap about champions. This guy is nothing. It was good to humble him, to show him where he is, so he stops talking crap and trying to be someone he’s not.”

In the main event, bantamweight champion Caldwell moved up to featherweight and stopped UFC veteran Noad Lahat by TKO in the second round, then proceeded to call out the “Pitbull” brothers referring to them as the “armpit brothers”. The division champion wasn’t amazed by any of that either.

“What a boring fight, man,” Freire said. “I stayed up until midnight thinking it would be a great performance, but I watched a boring fight. It didn’t impress me. I will kill this guy, destroy him, clean the floor with this son of a b****’s head.”

Freire is scheduled to defend his 145-pound title in the main event of Bellator’s upcoming card in Tel Aviv, Israel, on Nov. 15, against Emmanuel Sanchez.
