UFC Lincoln results: Cortney Casey takes razor-thin decision over Angela Hill

The UFC Lincoln strawweight matchup between Cortney Casey and Angela Hill was a high-volume, high-output, entertaining scrap.

The two competitors were so well-matched, in fact, that the few seemed to know which way the decision was going to go when it was over Saturday night.

The judges’ scored at Pinnacle Bank Arena reflected the fight’s nature. Casey got the nod on a split decision, taking a 30-27 and a 29-28 to a 29-28 card in Hill’s favor.

The decision was extra sweet for the Arizona-based Casey, who lost each of her previous two matchups via split.

“It feels good I lost my last two and those were tough too,” Casey said. “We took the fight on a short notice to fill in and that’s what we got, I wanted to have a tough fight with a tough opponent and it feels good to be on the winning side right now.”

Most seem to agree that Hill got the nod in the opening round and Casey in the second. Hill scored with body kicks and right hands, while Casey found her best success in close with uppercuts.

The final round was a tight affair, as both competitors had their moments, but in the end, Casey did just enough to earn the nod.

“I always think I can do a little bit more, I always feel like I have something to work on,” Casey (8-6) said. “If I can go November, December, I’m ready, let me know.”

Hill, the former Invicta strawweight titleholder, dropped to 8-5 with her second loss in her past three fights.
