Women’s bantamweight contender Ketlen Vieira won’t be performing at UFC Fight Night 137 anymore.
Forced to pull out from her bout against Tonya Evinger, the 27-year-old had an undisclosed reason to exit the card according to MMAjunkie, which was later revealed to be a knee injury that will require surgery, per MMA Fighting’s Marc Raimondi.
“I’m really upset. God knows how much I wanted to fight. I’ve cried a lot, but I accept God’s decisions. If he wanted this, I accept it. I just want to recover as soon as possible to be able to come to do what I love,” Vieira told MMA Fighting.
Ketlen Vieira (10-0) currently rides a four-fight winning streak in the Octagon, with wins over the likes of Kelly Faszholz, Ashlee Evans-Smith, Sara McMann and Cat Zingano. So far, there’s no timetable for her to return to action.
After her UFC debut against Cris Cyborg, which she lost via TKO, Tonya Evinger (19-6-1 NC) has not competed in the Octagon again. During her run at Invicta FC, she claimed the promotion’s bantamweight title and defended it twice before moving to the UFC.
UFC Fight Night 137 goes down in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on September 22. The card will be headlined by a light heavyweight bout between Jimi Manuwa and Thiago Santos, who took the fight on short notice.
